The Spin
The Spin is an award-winning jazz club that has been running regularly in Oxford since May 1999. Opened by Pete, along with Mark Doffman (drums) and Raph Mizraki (bass), these three formed the ‘house band’ that since accompanied scores of great guest artists, alongside promoting concerts by touring groups - including many New York outfits. Highlights include performances by ‘The Impossible Gentlemen’, Jonathan Kreisberg, Tim Garland, Nigel Kennedy and the club’s opening guest, John Etheridge.
Following the post-Covid re-opening, the club is now run by Pete and Stuart Miller, who have, together, re-vitalised the whole operation, resulting in all shows being sell-outs!
About ‘Spin 2’
Following the inactivity of the Covid pandemic, Pete had the great fortune in meeting Stuart Miller - a person with matching enthusiasms and energies for getting things done! Together, they planned a whole new approach to the club with the aim of attracting a broader - and younger - audience, by bringing a refreshed vitality to all their gigs. They achieved this by greatly updating their website and getting hip to social media; by taking the club to all sorts of different venues around Oxford; by recruiting a fabulous team of volunteers to help run the club; and by booking ‘new jazz generation’ acts of the highest quality (alongside top-drawer established players) to ensure that each gig would be a sell out and a great, vibey event!
Together, they also devised, designed and produced an entirely new form of music media, termed the ‘LSL’ (Look. Scan. Listen) For information on this innovation, please visit spinjazz.com/shop
