This second album by The New Noakes Quartet was a development from the debut ‘Through Green And Pleasant Lands’. Although stylistically this is now too fusionesque for my current taste, you can clearly hear the underlying harmonic language which still pervades my writing today. In this genre, the rhythm section of bassist Kerry Galloway and drummer Etienne Brachet are outstanding. Check out Kerry’s solo on ‘First Light’: utterly fluent and melodic throughout.
