This album came about as a result of two years regular gigging with Argentinean guitar virtuoso Luis D’Agostino. During that time we had built up a repertoire of guitar duos which ranged from tangos to works by the likes of Chick Corea, Egberto Gismonti and Joni Mitchell. We decided to record arrangements by such artists (as this is what we do live) rather than putting together a set of originals - a departure for me in this sense from my previous albums.
The Play of Light was recorded at Woodshed Studio in Oxford and for a studio recording, I think that we have captured much of the essence of our live performances. For six of the tunes, I have used Wes’s wonderful acoustic guitar, which makes for an ideal contrast to Luis’s jazz guitar.
